Personal Data Privacy Notice
The United Kingdom General Data Protection regulation (UK-GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018 affects every company that uses personal data from UK citizens.
As a teaching practice, I have a duty to ensure your personal data is protected and that it complies with GDPR.
As a result, I am required by law to ask for your consent before using your personal data, as below.
I will not share your information with third parties unless with your consent for exams, concerts etc.
Presumed consent is not allowed under this legislation so you must let me know that you are happy for me to use your data in the ways stated below and you can do so by signing the personal information form, agreeing that you understand that I will keep your personal data secure, will not pass it onto any third party unless it is necessary for the running of the business and will remove any personal data on your request.
What data I hold
Unless otherwise agreed with you, I will only collect the following personal data about you and your child (if they are the student): Your name, the student’s name (if different), home address, email address, home phone number and daytime contact (often a mobile phone number) if different, results of any external music exams the student takes whilst I’m teaching them and the student’s date of birth (if under 18 or wanting to enter for an external exam).
If you provide it I will also have a record of sensitive personal data such as family situation or any medical issues or other personal information (such as specific learning issues e.g. dyslexia) where it is pertinent to my teaching or exam entry.
And I record the name of anyone else who may be bringing a child student to or collecting them from lessons (for safeguarding purposes).
Why I need it
I need to know basic personal data in order to provide you with the services you have engaged me to provide, and to assert my right to be recompensed in return for these services as per the agreement I have with you.
What I do with it
I have a paper card index where I record all your personal data and use it to plan and administer music tuition and exam entry as relevant.
I also use the date of birth of my child students to send them birthday cards at the appropriate time.
I have an address book with your email address(es) on my PC and if you have given me your mobile phone number it may be stored in my mobile phone.
All the personal data I hold about you will be processed by me in the UK. The information is also shared with music examination boards, as relevant.
No other third parties will have access to your personal data unless there is a legal obligation for me to provide it. I will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your personal data is processed securely.
How long I keep it
I will generally keep your personal data for a minimum of 6 years, after which time it will be destroyed if it is no longer required for the lawful purpose(s) for which it was obtained.
If you would like me to delete some or all of the information I hold, or for me to stop using it for any particular purpose mentioned above, please contact me (details above).
