Student concerts

My student concerts (for family and friends, not the general public) are held twice a year and have a different theme each time.

They restarted in Spring 2023 in Tipton St. John Community Hall and although there is no charge, I ask for donations to cover the hall hire fee.

They are not a competition, and I’m happy for students to play pieces of music they find easy so they can play fluently.

I find performing to an audience builds confidence in the student’s ability to play and is useful practice for possible external exams (if relevant) and for school—both concerts and in class: performance assessment is part of the National Curriculum for music followed by most English schools (primary and lower secondary).

Each concert is held on a weekend (normally Sunday) afternoon and lasts for an absolute maximum of one hour and 45 minutes, including an interval for refreshments.

It is a private event, so I need to know in advance who will be attending.
